HELPING KIDS BACK TO SCHOOL AFTER CORONA – Dec 2021
On 10th Dec 2021, our volunteering team helped the following schools with some essentials to help kids back to school after the corona pandemic.
- We provided Government Hr. Sec. School in Sengipatti near Trichy Thanjavur border, with 2000 masks, a thermo scanner, a 5 Ltr can of sterilizer and 2 spray dispensers for this purpose. These were handed out to the school’s Head Teacher, deputy Head teacher, teachers, the school’s PTA President and a local social worker, Mr. Nandakumar who is also the husband of the local Panchayat Chairman. This school has a strength of 600 students (from the neighbouring villages) and a teaching staff of 30. We also proposed to sponsor installation of the KALVI 40 APP in their school which was well received by them. While there we also provided 500 masks and a thermos scanner to adjoining primary school’s HM. This primary school has a strength of 500 students.
- Next at the Panchayat School in Thuvakudi, we provided the school with 500 masks, a 5 Ltr can of sanitizer, 2 spray guns and 2 thermo scanners. We provided each one of the 60 kindergarten children, with uniforms, school bags, water bottles, pouch, set of pencils and set of crayons. We have already provided this School with a smart Class Room apart from a computer and furniture in an earlier round of charities.
- We then went to Philomena’s School in Kattur, Trichy were we were received by the Sister Ptincipal and a team of teachers. This School has a strength of 600 students. We provided them with a 5 L can of sanitizer, 2 spray guns and 1500 face masks. This school is in a bad shape and we had to wade through puddles of gutter water to reach the Principal’s room. They have requested us to set right this drainage issue for them and provide them with a conference room by remodeling two adjoining class rooms.
- At the School for visually impaired in Puthur, Trichy with a strength of 60 inmates. We provided them with 300 face masks, a 5 L can of sanitizer and 2 spray dispensers. In this school, we are also in the process of relaying the 1000 Sq. Ft. roof which is highly porous presently. For this we have finalized a contractor at a project cost of Rs. 1.36 lakhs. Our batchmate in school and local Architect, Mr. J. Udhayanan will be in charge of this project. They also brought to our attention an impending serious EB issue which we have assured to set right by speaking to the right authorities.
- Later we were joined by representatives of PAYIR TRUST to whom we provided a Bank Cheque for Rs. 1 Lakh as part of the funding for the construction of a Rotary Club facilitated Study Centre in Thenur Village, Trichy.
- We were then joined by Sathiyaraj, a college dropout to whom we provided with an educational assistance of Rs. 17,800/- (Rs. Seventeen Thousand Eight Hundred only) to help him resume his college education. Sathiyaraj is speech impaired and has hearing defects from birth. He is presently doing his II year BCA in Presidency College Chennai.
- We then proceeded to RC School in Trichy and provided them with 1000 face masks and 1 can of 5 L sanitizer apart from 2 spray guns. They wanted to implement the KALVI 40 APP earnestly and also to appoint an English Teacher through PTA to facilitate LSRW Skills to school students.
- The next day our batchmate and Man Friday for our trust in Ground Zero, Mr. Clements visited Anthony’s School in Kattur and provided them with 1,500 face masks, a thermal scanner, a 5 L can of Sanitizer and 2 spray dispensers.
BUILDING A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ONE SCHOOL AT A TIME – Jan 2020
On 10th January the volunteering team from the Trust, first went to Irangular – St. Annes Rehabilation Centre along with Father John Berchmans (Principal of RSK from 1998 to 2001) who kindly consented to dedicate these charities to the respective beneficiaries. He was the chief guest for the whole day. At Irangalathur , an enclosure around the bathing area was inaugurated and a computer, printer and stationary were donated. We also distributed sweets. They had organised some celebrations for us
At 11.45 we went to the school for visually impaired at Puthur ( or woriyur). We donated Slotted Angle racks for them to store their stationary and braille books. The school has placed a request with us to do the weathering course for the roof above the kitchen. We also noticed that the platform near the reception, had many ups and downs and there was high risk of physical injury to these children because of that. Going forward we would like to renovate the kitchen roof and this platform.
After lunch, we went to a government sports school in K K nagar and we donated a sports goods. This school has produced a lot of national champions in handball and volleyball. But still this school does not have enough sports goods to train its students
From there we went to “ ooratchi onriya Palli” in Thuvakudi. School which is starved for funds. The school caters to educating the underprivileged children. We noticed the school Principal was very proactive and a good administrator. We donated 10 round table’s and 50 chair’s and mounted a projector system for them.
We propose to adopt this school and make it into a model school. Right now, the children are studying in an open area. We need to make a building for the LKG , UKG classes in this school. We also propose to appoint an English teacher to impart listening, reading and writing skills in English across all classes.
All this will be discussed in the forthcoming Trust meeting. We will draw a plan of action. Once we have a budget, we will put forward the funding request. We are looking forward to your continued co-peration and support.
Let us make a change in the microcosm of Trichy and Tanjore

In all the three villages, with the help of the local administration the smart card ( ration card) of each family was collected and the relief material was handed over along with this card. This was done to ensure that everyone in the village received the provisions and also that there was no duplication of a family receiving the material.
Also due to the cooperation and support extended by the local district administration , the distribution of relief material in all 3 villages was completed in a single day.
As there had been funds flowing even after the first phase of relief work, a second round of distribution of tarpaulins was done on 23rd December 2018.
The Trust thanks all the donors with whose support the Gaja Relief was possible.
